The new 2017 ITC seasons begins NOW

Postby Unorthodoxy » Mon Feb 06, 2017 11:22 am

A Reminder: the 2017 ITC season starts DIRECTLY after the Las Vegas Open which means now. So your final points total will probably be up by the 10th of February if you did not attend the LVO, and if you did, the 17th.

In any event, a whole new chapter opens and for those who do not know (or just want a refresher course), now is THE time to start participating.

Each ITC (Independent Tournament Circuit) tournament you attend allows you to score points. The best five ITC tournament scores you manage to achieve are counted. So if you do poorly at one you can replace that score with a better one later but only the best five are counted so just attending alone won't get you there. You gotta' use the opportunity to improve, revise and improve again!

Of those five tournaments, 3 can be normal local events (generally we call them Rogue Trader Tournaments, or RTT's). The other two scores must come from attending either Grand Tournaments which must have at least 28+ player (such as the Elvensword Ambassadorial Tournament) or a Major tournament which has to have 58+ players(such as the Bay Area Open or the Las Vegas Open)

ITC scores within each ITC Tournament you attend are determined by taking your placement in the tournament (which gives you between 20-100 base points), adding 3 bonus points for each win you get before losing a game (so for example, if you win your first three games and lose the 4th, you have earned 9 bonus points) and then this total is modified by the attendance of the event. So in other words, it is always to your advantage to recruit friends to every tournament you go to, because you get more points whether you win or not! This represents the relative difficulty of winning in a larger pool of competitors. This can really add up as you can see at the Las Vegas Open which is a massive event whose points are commensurately massive for winning or losing. It easily could be the equivalent of almost three tournaments worth of points and is quite important for determining the final overall winner every year.

Anyone in the 400+ ITC points area is probably a very good Warhammer 40,000 player, and anyone in the 500+ are rare players indeed. There are now 5575 ranked players in the ITC. The top 10% of players have between 245.46 to 843.07 points for a frame of reference. The top 5% have between 350.23 to 843.07. So as you can see, 400+ is quite rare.

We are proud of our local group here. Our club is now ranked 25nd out of the 846 Clubs that have played this year (top 3%). Our players include some pretty great scores, and these are not updated to reflect the Elvensword Ambassadorial GT, so some of these may be improving. here are some of our local players rankings and their position within the armies they played:

71st Chancy Rickey (508.68, 9th best at Genestealr Cult, 8th as Space Wolves)
148th Josef McCoy (434.43, 6th As Militarum Tempestus, 11th at Adepta Sororitas, 16th As Tau Empire, 105th at Orks, 188th at Eldar, )
141st Oseas Aduna (409.11, 3rd at Orks, 31st at Dark Eldar, 272nd at Chaos Marines, 831st at Space Marines)
226th Matthew Stevens (384.12, 2nd at Deathwatch, 53rd at Astra Militarum, 168th at Chaos Marines, 631st at Space Marines)
812th Rory Corpuz (183.56, 20th at Khornate Daemonkin)
1294th Dennis Bowker (119.11)
1053th Glen Ray (147.37, 72nd at Imperial Knights, 90th at Grey Knights)

As you can see, 4 players are in the top 10%. Pretty sweet. Three of them in the top 3% Yahoo.

We play in a very deep pool of Generals. From Portland to Seattle, there are a ton of names in the top 5% that do come from our immediate area, so our "meta" is rich in talented players which sharpens all of our swords and gives credence to our results.

Now that the new season has begun, and everyone starts at zero points for 2017, it's the perfect time to start competing in ernest!

I have Tyranids, Space Wolves, and Genestealer Cult.

I think I can give some people a run for the money with GSC-Tyranid builds.

My wulfen will be sleeping entail I get my 3 wins with GSC and Tyranids. SO a half a year with no speed wolves to worry about for you guys.
