HQ: 2

Iron Priest- 115pts

Wolf Lord- 81pts

Troops: 3

5 Grey hunters- 84pts

1 Venerable Dreadnought - 145pts
(Includes Fenrisian Great Axe & Blizzard Shield)

Fast Attack: 1
Thunderwolf Cavalry- 240pts
(Includes 3 storm shields and 3 thunder hammers)

Heavies: 3

7 Long Fangs- 255pts
(Includes 8 Missle Launchers)
Venerable Land Raider - 366pts
(Includes 2 Twin Las Cannons, Twin Heavy Bolter, and a storm bolter)
Predator- 210pts
(Includes a Twin Las Cannon, Two side Las Cannons, and a storm bolter)

This is the list I played today and it actually did very well. One shotted a mortarion with 3 las shots rolled 3 6s on damage with the predator. Otherwise everything else performed well. The thunderwolf cavalry under performed a little bit, they got some wounds from simple nurgle marines and didn't do the kind of pounding I thought they would in CC. the Close Combat Dreadnaughts are scary, and as I have noticed are more effective against single targets. 5 attacks, 2+ to hit, Str10, -3 ap, D6 damage. They are like a swarmlord, dirt cheap too compared to other dreadnaughts. that 3+ invuln is nice. 7 Long Fangs with Missle launchers didn't dissapoint, I either got 20+ bolter shots from them or 7 las cannon type shots, so it gives me options. the Iron Priest was nice because I could heal D3 wounds on vehicles, not that I needed it.

At least based on this game I didn't really need the custodes at all, I could probably just ditch them and keep a space wolf landraider and maybe stack it with future blood claws? Grey hunters? Hard to say. As usual the lists I make focuse more on elite/heavy duty stuff. Hard to remove, and hits hard. Biggest problem is usually against armies like Tau that have the numbers and can just outshoot me. Most of my army had some kind of 3+ invuln so it wasn't bad. I thought about replacing the 5 man custodes with another venerable but with twin las cannons.

Thoughts?

play more games with it exactly how it is against multiple opponents.

switching all the time doesn't help you learn your units.

I'm not switching armies for giggles.. I am switching armies because I wanted the armies. I am not required to stick with 1 army for a year and call it a day. I want all the armies. Because I enjoy it, I'm not doing it to be competitive. I finished mt 100PL tau army so I moved on. Just like I finished my salamanders army before, and tyranid army before.

Mm. Yes, you're right of course. The answer IS to get defensive about it when you're offered good advice.

I already understand your addiction very well. It is the same addiction we all share and we all love collecting. You also play the game and given that you do... My advice is sound and you should receive it in the spirit in which it was given; that being the spirit of helpfulness.

I have no beef with your motivation for collecting and there is no "wrong" way to play. But there are best practices, and you DID just post this in an army list FORUM and specifically solicited our thoughts.

So my newest variation of this list i seem to be enjoying the most, it comes down to

HQ
Rune Priest
Rune Priest

Troops:
x5 Custodes w/ Shield and sword
x5 Grey Hunters w/ Bolters and Chainswords
x5 Grey Hunters w/ Bolters and Chainswords

Elites:
Venerable Dreadnaught w/ Fenrison Axe & Blizzard Shield
Venerable Dreadnaught w/ Twin Las Cannon & Wolf Claw w/ Heavy Flamer

Heavy:
x5 Long Fangs w/ 4 Heavy Bolters & plasma gun - Auxillary
x5 Long Fangs w/ 4 Missle Launchers & Plasma gun
Land Raider w/ Mult-Melta, 2 Twin Las Cannon & Twin Heavy Bolter
Venerable Land Raider w/ 2 Twin Las Cannon, Twin Heavy Bolter & a Storm Bolter

So far I like this variation, has a fair balance of anti-tank and anti-infantry for me. Missle launchers fill both roles, Heavy Bolters enhance it, as do the twin heavys on the land raiders, 10 las shots that can take down anything, 2 tough land raiders to take down, one containing a unit of custodes to sling shot into the opponent, which provides a very tough distraction for the opponent.

Mega crap. You're doing Warhammer 40,000 wrong.
