German Infantry force from two Open Fire boxes

German Infantry force from two Open Fire boxes

Postby DylanGould » Mon Oct 29, 2012 11:11 pm

Somebody was asking how much it cost to get into Flames of War. Chris was offering to swap the Germans from his Open Fire box for the Allies in somebody else's box in his Open Fire swap thread.

Playing around with various army lists, I figured you should be able to get a decent start to a force for your $70. Turns out I was wrong.

...because it turns out the two sets of Germans gets you 2,000 points of VolksGrenadiers in a reasonably competitive list, in addition to the dice, status tokens, objectives, rulebook, some extras, and an addictive hobby. List below, and yes, every single infantry stand has a PanzerFaust! Eight Confident Veteran platoons total with three ranged tank killer platoons, and you auto-attack against infantry with a built-in Spearhead move for four of the platoons. Requires a ballsy play style, but it should be a blast to play.

Oh, and one of the extras:

That will definitely be crash-landing into a couple of objective markers.

Wait...do the models come with Panzerfausts on them? Thinking back, I don't recall that.

And those are all Assault rifles too...ridiculous.

Drop a box on the base and they do. Or, it is an easy conversion for three of the poses. The rifles are not Assault Rifles, for that matter, but easy do denote what is what. Same principle as those Panzerknacker upgrades on command stands.

Its just that opponents are probably not going to care about the leader dude having a panzerfaust not model'd (Gawd I hope so!). But an entire army?...

I like the idea a lot though. That is a "Screw it, lets roll boyz" kinda list. 3 shots on the move and they are assaulting team afterwards? Yeah. Awesome.

Not hard to remember "every infantry team has a panzer fault", in my opinion. Same principle. However, to be clear, I would write the abbreviation on the base facing the opponent...micron pens for the win.

Remebering it wasn't the point, of course.

I am just so impressed with this starter box. What a DEAL man!

Maybe I can just buy some of the extra stuff from someone who doesn't need it. Problem is, quantifying what the contents are worth. There are a lot ofthings in i that add value that I wouldn't be taking and at a certain point it becomes foolish to pay for it and not just buy it myself.

I'm thinking this will REALLy help people get inerested. I wish Gabi used endcaps at her tables but..oh well.
